Made Safe is an initiative of CME.
Made Safe staff are trained and experienced safety professionals with years of industry-specific experience and knowledge. Team members maintain professional designations, such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Ergonomics Specialists (CES), Ergonomics Systems Specialist (ESS) and the Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) from nationally recognized and accredited third parties.
In addition to the Made Safe team, members are encouraged to explore the many benefits of CME membership and additional expertise available through CME Manitoba.
Neal Curry, Executive Director
Professional BackgroundNeal has more than 40 years manufacturing experience. He has provided leadership in executive positions in small, medium and large companies in both union and non-union environments. Neal has been the Executive Director of Made Safe since its inception in 2016. Neal has been continuously contributing to safety networking in Manitoba as past Chair of CME Safety & Health Committee and member of the Ministers Advisory Council for Workplace Safety & Health. He is currently on the Worker’s Compensation Board of Manitoba Prevention Committee and serves as the Chair of the Industry Based Safety Program Council. Neal’s Safety Philosophy is “Safety cannot be an add on. It must be integral to how we do things. Safety and productivity are not mutually exclusive; in fact, a lean well-organized plant is both safe and efficient.”

Nathan Rasmussen, Program Manager
Professional BackgroundNathan has worked in the manufacturing industry for 21 years, gaining experience in Foundries, Sheet Metal and Millwork. In his manufacturing career, Nathan has spent 16 years as a Safety Professional and 6 years in safety training roles. Nathan’s Safety Philosophy is “Every injury is predictable, preventable and unacceptable.”

Professional BackgroundGib has worked in the manufacturing industry for 25 years, gaining experience in windows and doors, iron and steel fabrication, and cylinders and compressors. Currently working as a Safety Advisor for Made Safe, Gib is widely known for his 8 years in the safety industry. In addition to his work experience, Gib holds the National Construction Safety Officer designation and specializes in educating on respectful workplaces. Gib’s Safety Philosophy is “Think safety today. Tomorrow may be too late.”

Don Oldcorn, Training & Development Manager
Professional BackgroundDon has over 10 years of experience designing, developing and delivering training and more than 9 years in manufacturing. Don is a Lean Level II Greenbelt and enjoys applying the concepts of continuous improvement, strategic thinking and planning to solve problems and make organizations better. Don’s Safety Philosophy is, “It is a privilege to be part of an organization delivering safety training to Manitoba workers because you know you are making a real difference in these workers’ lives, and the lives of their families.”

Professional BackgroundReg began his career in HR in a variety of manufacturing & warehousing environments gaining more than 12 years of experience. In addition to that, he has more than 4 years of cumulative training experience. His Safety philosophy is “Safety is more than just a buzzword. It is a philosophy that requires a constant never wavering focus from all parts of an organization, not just the front-line employees. No process, function, or deadline should ever compromise a workers well-being. An organization that is committed to safety is thereby committed to success.”

She has experience in emergency preparedness, response and management, and confined space & high angle rescue operations. She returned to university to contribute to strengthening workplaces through incident and injury prevention programs. Mel’s Safety Philosophy is: “Safety is not an intellectual exercise to keep us in work. It is a matter of life and death. It is the sum of our contributions to safety management that determines whether the people we work with live or die.” – Sir Brian Appleton

Mariame Khoury, Safety Advisor
Professional BackgroundMariame has experience in maintaining regulatory compliance in the transportation of dangerous goods, following 18 years in the hospitality and customer service industries which allowed her to harbour excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate with different audiences. She is passionate about keeping the workforce of our manufacturing industry safe within their workplaces, and swears by continuous improvement. She believes that effective and accessible training in safety awareness is an important initiation and a significant component for employees to genuinely practice safety at work. Her philosophy mirrors the ageless saying “ give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
