Reasoning
Investigations are an important part of a fully functioning Safety Management System. Legislation requires investigations of different types of incidents to be completed at your facility. This course will provide information and explanation on those required investigations.
Goal
This course will enable the learner to go from ensuring steps are taken that no further injury or damage occurs at the time of the incident to writing the investigation report. Upon successful completion of this course a certificate, and/or wallet card where applicable, will be mailed to the student.
Standards
This course is designed to meet or exceed provincial legislation and industry best practices.
Duration and materials
The course includes four hours of theory on the investigation process from initial injury, gathering physical evidence, to determining causes and costs of the incident. Learners will receive a manual which includes excerpts of the applicable legislation.
Target audience
This course is designed for supervisors, committee co-chairs or safety personnel with the need to fully understand the investigation process. A clear understanding of the processes used throughout the facility is beneficial.
Specific learning
Topics include legislative investigation requirements, gathering physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, checking background information, determining causes, making recommendations to employers for corrective actions and writing the investigation report.
